No, there shouldn’t be a software-hardware-combo. That’s why Windows is thousand times better, because it is professional enough to run on EVERY Hardware. Microsoft ftw!
why do people say apple makes their own hardware. cuz from what i see in their pc’s are the same in other pc’s that run windows. Ex.. nvidia gpu, western digital, seagate, intel etc. Apple does not make their own hardware. Saying that is like say ing apple owns intel and they make processor for all pc manufacturers. Also Microsoft is not copying apple retail wise .
I think, Microsoft will be really successful with their retail stores. Basically, that’s exactly what Apple did. No one believed that Apple Stores would be profitable when they first showed up, but over 250 Stores all over the world today suggest otherwise
Microsoft has always been good in taking a good idea and using it for themselves (GUI, Mouse, IE, Zune…), I don’t see why this shouldn’t work in retail.
I’d like to see a couple more of these stores in the future.
Hey, thanks for posting. Thing is, Microsoft have already got third party companies selling and marketing Windows based machines. The main question which arises now is, who’s hardware does MS use in its stores? If they don’t use Dell, they’re gonna get angry. Previously, it was everyone man for himself. But now – the game has changed.
…and other large-box stores is completely lacking! Microsoft has tried for years with past partners (CompUSA, Circuit City) to better present Microsoft products, but it’s been a struggle. Sometimes you just need to control the retail experience yourself.
Sony has a stores, Gateway has stores, etc. Let’s see how this plays out.
First of all, it’s nice to see a Mac guy with a nice sensibility when talking about MSFT. I try and do the same when talking about Apple.
I think we’re kind of missing the big picture here–which is the presentation of Microsoft products. Since they are primarily a software company, save for the Zune HD and a few mice/keyboards, their software is shaped by the hardware it runs on and the presentation these products receive in stores. And the retail environments in Best Buy…
First of, i completely agree you do look like Shia LeBeouf! haha
You’ve made some very valid points regarding this situation with microsoft and retail stores. If microsoft launched a uk retail store, i’d enter feeling possibly embarrased? I don’t understand why that would be, however I do think A. they are slapping OEM’s in the face and B. i reckon its beginning to look like a desperation attempt compared to apple.
I honestly think they will fall flat on their face with their retail venture.
I cant say I will use it but MS has more money to burn than any other company so they can afford to let if fail for years before they need to give up on it but they have a near on 90% share of the market how can they fail all they need do is buy up other companies.
What I meant by ‘hope it doesn’t work out for MS’ was the fact that MS are going direct to consumers, this will have a knock on effect on smaller retailers. MS don’t have a clear vision of their retail strategy – they, from my opinion, are going in this sector purely because they see Apple successful and want a piece of the cake. What they dont realise is that MS philosophy and way of doing things is complete different from Apple. Comes back to the issue of control I mentioned.
Erm – opening retail stores doesn’t mean you’ll have a better/superior product. Yes, you are able to present it better – go to any McDonalds outlet and the picture of the burger on the menu/marketing gimmicks will look awesome. However, the actual tangible product will look like shit.
Generally speaking – us consumers should only be cheering for and supporting the best PRODUCTS. That’s it.
Its funny personalizing a brand, even tho we all know its what the brands want.. I’m a MAC.. I’m a PC..
Hope it doesn’t work out for MS? Why? What is the definition of it “Working Out”? If it Works out for MS that just means that YOU, the consumer will have a Superior Product, BETTER than Apple Product (that, by definition, is what it means having it “Work out” for MS)

i totally agree with you
they make their own (scripting, coding etc), just other ‘factories’ make them, materials etc.

MS is the best.
microsoft needs to make computers of its own in order to compete with the software-hardware-perfect-combo of apple.

Don’t u want THAT?
They should open another store in Scotland. lol. I am sick of getting a train from Edinburgh TO Glasgow every time i want a apple store.
or just the french in general
Completely agree with all that you said. I wish it was coming to the UK to see it for myself, but I think Apple will still be top dogs
iPodz4utube
“hope it doesn’t work” ME TOO LOL
lol i agree
Very Interesting video!
Going to an Apple Store is almost a day out, there are performances, seminars etc. Microsoft just arent that good at being “fun”
