4 Things To Consider Before Signing Up For A Retail Store Credit Card

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

We’ve probably all been there at some point. You’re in one of your items of choice for new clothes and if the cashier asks the seller if you want to get their card store credit. Then she goes on to explain that you save 15% on all your purchases that day, if you are offering to their card. It sounds good, right? I mean, who does not want to save even more money? To complete the form and then leave the store satisfied with your purchase.
Although the initial savings of 15% is a good deal, you will notice that there may not be the case in the long term. Today, many people have a kind of store credit cards and there is a big deal for retailers, because there are a lot of money from them. In addition, these cards have served as a form of free advertising for retailers.
But this card also has its share of disadvantages. Here are four of them:
First interest rates
A store credit card tend to have a rate as high as 20-30%. On the other hand, with a credit card typically has a rate below 15%. As you can see, the increase in interest rates to increase your financial health if you do not pay your balance in full at the end of each accounting period.
2nd Score Credit Rating
These credit cards can have a negative effect on the credit rating of a person. Credit bureaus use a special formula to calculate the credit score of a person and they will save the credit card charge different from bank credit cards. The credit bureaus, you can vote as a major risk if you have a card with high interest rates. This could in turn lower your credit score. In addition, credit cards too can add the most negative points on your credit score.
3rd Even if you’re not the card, the impact on your credit score is not desirable.
4th Many retail stores data you often and share with other third parties. They do it because they can not earn money. What happens is that other companies buy such lists from retailers and then send people on the lists of their own offers in the mail or e-mail if you are available. You can potentially more spam in your mailbox.
Before deciding on any type of credit card details, ask yourself whether you really need. If you visit the respective branch at regular intervals and you have a strict discipline when it comes to managing your personal finances, such a card can bring benefits.
